Several thousands of people continue to be in relief camps even as the violence has been contained in Manipur. As some tribal MPs press the demand for separate administration of tribal areas of the state, people at large are hoping the violence is behind them for real.

The ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities led to extreme violence claiming more than 70 lives and injuring 230. Both communities were gruesomely attacked — schools, churches, temples and homes were burnt to ashes. As victims highlight the state police were absent or were mere spectators to the violence, it is time the Union government directly steps in to balance the unequal sharing of resources among the two communities and bring peace and harmony.
